DSM Highlights Active Ingredient With Skin Care And Hair Care Benefits - happi.com

The growing interest in using skin care ingredients to meet hair and scalp care needs has inspired a new hair care trend - 'Skinification'. To support product developments that align with this, DSM screened its portfolio of 20 proven skin actives to find which ones can also deliver the scalp and hair benefits consumers want most.

One ingredient that delivers skin as well as scalp and hair benefits is Alpaflor Edelweiss CB – DSM’s organic skin bioactive that’s also biodegradable, preservative-free and locally and ethically sourced.

Extracted from the alpine plant Edelweiss var. Helvetica, Alpaflor Edelweiss CB was first developed to support the facial skin barrier. In May however, at SID 2021, DSM presented evidence for hair care application. These were its key findings:

  • Alpaflor Edelweiss CB prolongs the anagen phase (growth phase) in hair follicles ex vivo
  • Alpaflor Edelweiss CB stimulates dermal papilla inductivity in hair follicles ex vivo

DSM has also shared new exciting data proving that Alpaflor Edelweiss CB and the all-in-one vitamin compound BeauPlex VH have a beneficial effect on hair density and thickness in vivo after five months. With more than one third of consumers using scalp care products at home to fight hair thinning and density concerns, and more than 49% of consumers interested in preventive action, this could be just the solution.
