Hair Care Product & Beauty Ingredient Trends for 2022 Include Scalp Oils, Sustainable Packaging - happi.com

The word “artist” is often used in the hair industry and very appropriately.

At Philip Pelusi, we see ourselves as hair artists but also as product artists.

And just like hair design, the needs and whims of the marketplace are ever-changing.  We pride ourselves in being ahead of the curve with our formulas, now poised to meet the most recent consumer demands that seem to be a contradiction to ingredient credos of the past.

But we see today’s most cutting-edge ingredient and product trends more as an illimitable reincarnation.

Tela Organics Life Force collection

Microbiome Zen

Once upon a time the words “bacteria” and “good” would never have been thought to be put together into the same sentence let alone put into a hair or skin product.  The tide has most definitely turned where today bacteria, specifically “good bacteria”, is considered one of the keys to a well-balanced a.k.a. Zen scalp microbiome.

At Philip Pelusi, we have always believed that a healthy scalp is the precursor to growing healthy hair.  It has always been part of our product creation ideology dating back decades to our using the revolutionary and still relevant Saccharomyces Lysate Live Yeast Cell Extract in our formulas.

We have continued our healthy scalp ingredient journey leading to the creation of our Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Life Force Collection.  This system can be used alone or as part of our in-salon Tela Life Force Root to End Recovery Hair and Scalp Treatment with our Tela Universe Signature Scalp Massage.  Tela Life Force is comprised of the Power Shampoo, Power Conditioner, The Fountain of Hair Vitality Serum, Probiotic Scalp Scrub and Probiotic Hair Mask.

Headlining these formulations is The Tela Life Force Hair Immunity Complex. This incredible ingredient mixture of Prebiotics and Probiotic Enzymes derived from Fermented Kelp Extract.  Probiotics help to balance the scalp’s microflora in similar fashion as how Probiotics work inside our digestive system.  The skin and scalp must also have a healthy balance of specific microflora, good bacteria, or the scalp cannot function at its optimal level and prematurely ages.  Our Tela Life Force Probiotics help rebalance the microflora helping the scalp to flourish and provide a healthy scalp environment for hair growth.  Think anti-aging for your scalp. Fermented Kelp Extract is also a great source of antioxidants that help fight oxidation and the resulting inflammation of the scalp while helping protect hair’s color and scalp’s strength from free radical pollutants.  Kelp is also abundant in beneficial minerals, vitamins, and protein.

The Prebiotics, derived from mostly vegetables, act as a rich fertilizer to enrich the work of probiotics.  So, they work hand in hand.  Other benefits of the Tela Hair Immunity Complex include strengthening and hydrating leaving hair shiny, full of body with increased elasticity.

Good Scalp Oils

For those of us who can remember when, there was a time when oil was seen as something only to be removed from the skin and hair and most definitely was not considered an acceptable product ingredient from the consumer’s standpoint.  And although not all oils are created equal, today we are adding incredibly beneficial and often never heard of organic oils to our hair and scalp-oriented products.

Overall, these untapped wonders all act as scalp and hair hydrators, help in heat protection, and create lustrous shine.  We choose oils that are shampoo soluble so there is no buildup on the hair or scalp.  And surprisingly they work well on mostly all textures.  We prefer the gold standard cold-pressed oils, meaning they retain their nutritional value during processing.  And through the high-tech process of Micro Emulsion Technology, we perfect their molecular size for quicker and deeper penetration into the hair fiber and scalp surface.  But their benefits go far deeper.

Pongamia Glabra (Karanja) Seed Oilis one of the stars in our latest product release Tela Beauty Organics Magic Hair Transformer, Exquisite Hair Texture Fabric Rejuvenator.  Pongamia Glabra Seed Oil is derived from the seeds of the Millettia Pinnata tree, native to South and Southeast Asia, it contains 9 fatty acids that nourish, moisturize, and act as antiaging, slip, and heat protection agents.  Pongamia Glabra Seed Oil also has natural antimicrobial, soothing, and antioxidant benefits thus helping to protect hair’s strength and hair color from fading.  Shine and some UV filtration properties benefit as well.  Plus, Pongamia Glabra Seed Oilbeen used in Ayurvedic medicine to calm and heal skin issues, so it helps the scalp as well.

USDA Certified Organic Jamaican Black Castor Oil and Quinoa Seed Oilthat are rich with Vitamin E and Omega Fatty Acids, found in our Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Frizz Buster, provide brilliant shine, moisture, heat protection, strengthens and calms frizz.

We sourced USDA Certified Organic Plukenetia Volubilis Seed Oil, well known as Sachi InchiOil, for our Tela Beauty Organics Guardian Angel Solar Hair Serum.  Sachi Inchi Oil is rich in protein and fatty acids Omega 3, 6 and 9 to strengthen, hydrate and help with heat protection.  This incredible ingredient also is rich in hair protective antioxidants Vitamins A and E to help ward off environmental pollutants while helping slow the oxidative process that fades hair color.

We added incredibly versatile USDA Certified Organic Baobab Seed Oil to many of our formulas including our P2 by Philip Pelusi Clenz Crème.  Baobab Seed Oil is rich with Vitamin D3 plus 5 Fatty Acids that nourish, moisturize, help reduce frizz and helps build substantive tensile strength.

Sustainability Meets Science

Consumer views have also changed greatly when it comes to natural and organic ingredients coexisting with science, where past perceptions meant never the twain shall meet.  But we have always taken a nature improved by science approach to product creation at Philip Pelusi.  Very timely, in that one of today’s consumer demands is product innovation coupled with a desire for organic and sustainable ingredients.

We put this in action in our latest product release Tela Beauty Organics Magic Hair Transformer, Exquisite Hair Texture Fabric Rejuvenator enabling us to significantly improve the internal structure of the hair.  First, weadded the patented chemistry of Hydroxypropyl Gluconamide to Tela Magic.  This natural origin bond multiplier strengthens damaged hair fiber three times more than untreated hair.  As we know, damaged hair has compromised or broken Disulfide as well as broken Hydrogen Bonds and other linkages.  Penetrating deep into the cortex to create new hydrogen and ionic bonds, Hydroxypropyl Gluconamide rejuvenates both damaged beta-keratin as well as strengthens undamaged alpha keratin, resulting in greater overall breakage resistance.   The cherry on top of this incredible ingredient is that it has a good sustainability footprint.

Next, we tapped the anti-ageing abilities of Hexapeptide-11.  We know as we age, one of the factors involved in hair loss is the reduction of the anagen or active growing cycle phase of hair growth in the internal hair bulb.  Hexapeptide-11, a bio fermented peptide, helps improve collagen production in the hair bulb, improving follicle integrity and health resulting in a reduction in hair loss, increasing the size and smoothness of the hair bulb while providing anti-inflammatory properties and preserving antioxidant activity. Plus, it helps improve skin elasticity.

Transparent Beauty Marketing

And one of the best consumer demand evolutions is transparency, a behind the scenes look at product creation.  At Philip Pelusi we have always used the Food and Drug Administration declaration and proper nomenclatures as well as their ingredient descriptors.  Our ingredient labels are so long they read like The World Book Encyclopedia, but we feel it’s worth it.

But for us the real transparency starts with our Stylists who are the true link between the consumer and the product.  They make the product come alive to the guest through education.  So, one of our longtime standards has always been product-educated Philip Pelusi Stylists.  Through our extensive New Era Virtual and In-person Product Education Program, Stylists start learning on day one of their hire date.  We take the Stylist through short but fact-filled educationals including how Philip Pelusi creates a product and detailed education on each formula.  Although some might say we over do it in this department but feel it’s critical especially now that today’s consumer is so thirsty for this type of information.
