Ask any restaurateur what their biggest challenge is, and many – if not most – will say hiring and retention. Restaurants continue to build their staff in a post-COVID world. If an operator can retain and inspire, he or she will see better cost control and improved operational efficiency.
That was the takeaway from a webinar entitled "What's the secret recipe for increased profits and predictable expansion? Your people." The webinar was sponsored by Nudge and hosted by Fastcasual.com.
Speakers for the webinar were Jordan Ekers, co-founder and COO of Nudge, and JD Dillon, chief learning architect for Axonify. The pair spoke about ways to inspire, align and grow a restaurant team.
"The entire theme of this conversation is really about how can we better understand what frontline food service restaurant staff want and need in order to better to support them on behalf of the brand experience that they bring to life every day," said Ekers.
Ekers said restaurant staff is still needed despite the digitization of restaurant operations in order to survive the next phase of COVID-related impacts.
"It's our belief that the next big transformation that's happening in this industry is finding new and more innovative ways to better reach and engage your frontline staff to execute on the new complex business model that's happening," Ekers said.
Dillon said it's interesting to consider the evolution of the frontline employee in the food service space and how business models are revolving around that employee.
"There's a lot of ways that technology is changing the way of the foodservice business," Dillon said. "How can we leverage the employee to bring us along on that journey?"
