The most beloved cocktail in Mexico, Texas Monthly argues, is not the margarita. It’s the paloma, the two-ingredient tequila-and-grapefruit-soda concoction best made with Squirt brand soda (or Jarritos, in a pinch). Writer Jessica Dupuy’s detailed account of the drink’s history is a refreshing read, but our favorite part is the unfussy recipe at the end, which calls for up to 3 ounces of tequila and a bottle of grapefruit soda. “I don’t know anybody that would measure out a paloma,” said tequila brand consultant Juan Pablo De Loera. “It’s just a pour of tequila over ice and however much soda you would like.” Cheers!
