The weird, wonderful, and often expensive, beauty habits and routines of the stars have been reported far and wide. From Kate Moss submerging her face in a sink of ice water each morning, to Catherine Zeta-Jones using the pulp of strawberries to clean and whiten her teeth, you can always count on A-listers for some serious self-care inspo.

However, unlike some of the more bizarre methods, Reese Witherspoon's go-to treatment for achieving shiny, healthy-looking hair is pretty simple, and you likely already have the one thing you need in your kitchen cupboards.

According to Redbook, the 45-year-old said she uses coconut oil when asked what her favourite haircare treatment was.

'Take a big spoonful of coconut oil and massage it from mid-strand to ends, avoiding roots. Shampoo it out,' she said.

And she isn't the only one. Emma Stone, Miranda Kerr, Gwyneth Paltrow and Mindy Kaling are all reportedly fans of smothering the cooking ingredient into their locks to achieve healthy, voluminous hair.

Coconut oil has other beauty benefits, too: some people swear by it as a makeup remover, or rub it into their nails to help achieve healthy cuticles and nail beds, and some swill it around in their mouth to help achieve whiter teeth.

Reese's hairstylist has also previously revealed that if you're after that red carpet height and volume, then applying volumizer to the roots will help.

Adir Abergel explained: Blow-dry by holding sections at the crown straight up, placing a round brush at the roots, blasting it with your dryer, and removing the brush once hair is cool. Finally, dry the rest of your hair, using just your hands to scrunch as you go.

Thanks for the haircare inspo, Reese — we're off to hunt through our kitchen cupboards.
