As it turns out, fantastic drinks and absolutely bonkers pasta recipes aren’t the only things Stanley Tucci is capable of cooking up—the actor’s comments about love can make our hearts melt as much as his culinary creations make our mouths water.
In a July 2 interview with BBC Radio, Tucci admitted that he’d been initially hesitant to strike up a relationship with now-wife Felicity Blunt for a variety of reasons, one of which is the two-decade age gap between the two. Tucci said after meeting Blunt, sister of Emily Blunt at the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada (which Tucci and Emily both starred in), he “was afraid to get into a relationship, and I kept trying to break it off.”
"I'm 21 years older than she is, and I didn't want to feel old for the rest of my life,” Tucci, who is now 62, said. “But I knew that this was an incredibly special person.”
Tucci also had the life experience that comes with being older: He is a widower, and his first wife, Kate Tucci, died of breast cancer in 2009. He had three children with her, twins who are now 23, and a 21-year-old daughter.
Of course, we know that he was able to overcome the anxiety: He and Felicity wed in 2012, and had two more children together.
“Felicity has been so incredible, taking on a widower and three children whose mother died,” he said. “That's a huge thing at a very young age. If anybody made things better for all of us, it's her. She's the one.”
He previously credited Felicity with helping him through a 2017 bout of his own with cancer.
“Felicity's undying attention, affection and encouragement got me through it,” he said at the time.
Of course, nobody’s a miracle worker—the kids are still picky eaters, despite their father’s culinary passions, according to Tucci.
